Decades ago, forward-thinking community organizations and politicians
from ALL political parties recognized a rapidly growing environmental threat:
unrestricted expansion of our urban centres into the countryside.
The Greenbelt was created as a safeguard which requires us to address
problems – like the housing crisis – without destroying nature.
This is the Greenbelt Promise
Before he became Premier in 2018, Doug Ford said in the strongest terms
that he would not remove lands from the Greenbelt: "The people have
spoken - we won't touch the Greenbelt".
Since that time Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Municipal Affairs and
Housing Steve Clark have publicly said 18 other times that they would not
open the Greenbelt to development.
Although politicians do break promises, commitments to protect the planet
are a special kind of promise. Everything is at stake.
We live in a time when everyone must work together to protect the planet.
It’s NOT too late to save the Greenbelt.
